Donna Borba
Donna owns and operates the Borba Training Stables in Escalon, California with her husband, Alvin. Donna has been involved in training horses for 30 years.
Donna was introduced to horses at a young age by her aunt and uncle, Ken and Linda Wood, who were breeders of Arabian horses. Donna developed a close relationship with an Arabian gelding named, Abu Khan, owned by her aunt and uncle who gave this talented little gelding to Donna in 1976 which became the start of her career path in the training of horses.
Donna worked at many horse ranches in the Agoura, California area during this period of time where she also started many young horses under saddle. She was fortunate to have the renowned Veterinarian Dr. Robert Miller give her much assistance and direction in starting young colts. In 1980, Donna went to work for U4EA Training Stables, a training facility for Snaffle bit horses. She quickly became assistant trainer for starting the young colts under saddle and starting working them on cattle.
In 1983 she then went to work for the JMJ Ranch in Hidden Valley, Ca. for Myron Patton, training Quarter Horses and Paints in all disciplines, and again specializing in starting the ranch’s colts. During these years, Donna was introduced to the World Champion Team Penning Assoc. through H Cattle Co. of Somis, Ca. where she would go for some friendly team penning and roping competitions between ranches. Her Arabian gelding Abu Khan was an oddity to these ranchers who were Quarter Horse breeders. Teamed up with Abu, Donna won most every competition and new doors in the horse world were opened up to her. In 1987, Donna retired Abu Khan from the world circuit as its High Point Champion. She then offered her services for training horses specializing in starting colts and rehabilitating horses.
Over the years Donna has been hired to purchase horses for many new horse owners as well as some Hollywood celebrities. Donna has been working as a horse show ring steward since 2000, and is currently working on becoming a judge for the American Quarter Horse Association.
